Finding Your Bottom For Drinking Alcohol

Where and when is the point for you when change becomes a non negotiable requirement? When it comes to curbing self destructive behaviours, the sooner the better! Can you get out of trouble while ‘both cars are still in the garage’, an old adage to divorce and family breakups that become prevalent with ongoing alcohol abuse.

It’s a matter of attitude and perception, both of which are crucial to growth in recovery. With alcohol and most addictive substances, you are seldom in equilibrium. You are either in decline, in a holding stage prior to decline to come, or you’ve cut back or quit usage and you are back in a growth stage in life. A key here is that you literally stop growing as a human being while you are using. The good news is that when you stop, you discover your youth in many ways and start the wonderful process of evolving as a human being.

Everyone’s bottom is different. Many die horrible deaths before they reach it, realizing their errors in their final days when it’s to late. Many suffer terrible health, financial, family, social and economic losses before it becomes non negotiable that they see the path they are following will lead to their demise and they must change. It doesn’t have to be that way. You can, with clear concentrated thought see the paths before you in advance and choose, non negotiably that you will not continue to use as the path you wish to follow in life is not one that includes ingesting poison. You will age better and as David Bowie said in his wisest stage of life ‘Ageing is an extraordinary process whereby you become the person you always should have been‘.
