The grass really is greener on the other side. There is no double guessing it, no downside, no better way of life. It can be overwhelming when confronted by the mass hysteria of alcohol use in society to question whether being inebriated is a better way of life. From the first drink, its all downhill from there and unfortunately, it usually takes many years to be lucky enough to see through it. Through focused sobriety planning, we gain freedom from substance abuse and well learned skills to continue to grow. Often, as they say ‘we are the luckiest’ its those people who are more adversely affected but still have the courage and means to escape it, that are the most enlightened on really seeing clearly what a load of crap it is to buy into using drugs of any kind as a way of trying to find happiness or escape reality.
This opens up the larger real arena of growth, physically, mentally and spiritually; to be satisfied in the state of our own sober existence. It’s our pain of existence, amplified times a thousand when we add youth trauma to our existence that we want to be anywhere other than where we are, with anyone other than who we are with, in any other house and so on. Travel commercials and lotteries emphasize this unquenchable thirst for consumerism and exotic vacations to satisfy our yearning, which becomes short lived as each new luxury becomes the new mundane. In truth, choosing the teetotaller way of life is a permanent vacation in itself. A stay real vacation of health, perception, love and growth. How’s that for a travel brochure!
There is pride in sobriety. No matter how anything else is going today, staying sober and not having that 1000 lb gorilla on your back is better than all the material riches in the world. Living long, so we can experience fully the beauty of this world and being able to be there to give back to the world returns more peace and fulfillment than anything else we can do. There is nothing else needed! Never again to regret what we did to ourselves, to other people, what we missed out on, what we destroyed or threw away. Knowing we were building on our health rather than rushing our journey to the grave. True peace is so much more obtainable through sobriety.
What’s the process of growth, to find sobriety, keep it and grow as a person after the interruptions of drugs are no longer present to help the natural process and allow for our conscious growth? Just being out there, with an open heart and watcher, ready to do the right thing and help. Being a positive karmic energy impacts the world. From a more analytical perspective, breaking it down into your goals, values, triggers, reactions and preparation sets the stage for a planned path into sobriety in the first year.
